How to Maintain Your Ceramic Coating

5 Jan 2026 6 min read

A ceramic coating is not maintenance-free — it's maintenance-easy. Follow this routine and a 5-year coating will hit its full life. Skip it and the same coating may be dead in two.

Weekly

  • Rinse off bird droppings and bug splatter immediately — never let them sit
  • Quick spray with a SiO2 detailer if the car is dusty but doesn't need a full wash

Every 2–3 weeks

  • Two-bucket hand wash with pH-neutral shampoo
  • Dry with a clean microfibre — work top-down so dirty water never falls onto clean panels

Every 6 months

  • Iron and fallout decontamination wash
  • Top-up coating spray to refresh hydrophobic behaviour
  • Inspect for any chips or scratches that have broken through the coating

Annually

Most professional warranties require an annual inspection. It takes 30 minutes, costs little or nothing, and protects the warranty for the rest of its life. Don't skip it — it's the cheapest insurance you'll ever buy on a coating.
